I'm Rupinder, and this is the part of the website where I'm meant to sound impressive. I'll try, but I have two teenage sons who work hard at keeping me humble, so it may not stick.
I spent ten years in mental health, sitting with people on some of the hardest days of their lives. It taught me something I've never let go of. What helps first usually isn't a program or a plan.
It's someone sitting down, not rushing, and actually listening. Not the kind where you're quietly rehearsing your next sentence. The proper kind, where the kettle goes on and nobody watches the clock.
That's why Hope Heaven Care Australia exists.
I came into this work through community services, then trained specifically in mental health, and later completed a Master of Public Health. Each step changed how I see things.
The Certificate IV taught me how to sit with one person. The Master's taught me why so many people end up sitting in that same chair, and what actually shifts it.
You need both views to do this well. One tells you how to help the person in front of you. The other tells you what's putting them there in the first place.
Three years in client engagement and operations taught me the unglamorous half. Kindness that arrives forty minutes late with the wrong information is just a story you tell yourself.
Good care runs on rosters, calls returned, and someone remembering you take two sugars.
I travel whenever I can, and what I keep noticing is how alike we all are underneath. The food changes, the language changes, the music definitely changes.
But everywhere, people worry about their kids, laugh at the same daft things, and want to be treated like they matter.
Wherever you go, people feel the same things and want the same things. There is one race, and that's the human race. I bring that to work with me every day, and it's how our whole team treats the people we support.
I'm at a stage of life where I finally have the time to give something back, and this is how I've chosen to spend it.
My boys are old enough now to roll their eyes at me from a safe distance, and my husband has believed in this from the start and never once said "are you sure?" out loud.
